Lynn and I have had a long term involvement with the environment and the American landscape. In addition to documenting the Love Canal disaster, upon our return to Yaddo, the GE South Glens Falls/Hudson River PCB situation was breaking and a life-long concern was established. I learned to sail with Pete Seeger's Clearwater movement, sailing on the Sojourner Truth out of Hastings, N.Y., where I assisted in the development of the Hudson River Photography Annual - training the volunteers, obtaining support funding for the exhibition prizes and installing/curating for its first four years. This exhibition, moved each year up/down the river corridor like the estuary's waters, was open free to all, including children, with prizes in numerous categories. Getting people down to the River, sailing on it at sunset under the Palisades and watching it become cleaner each year is something I will always hold dear.

These links will take you to an overview of our environmental activities including newspaper coverage of a related Bronx River Restoration Project

Miracle on the River was conceived to get the communities along the River directly involved and finally bring something positive to the major media channels regarding the Bronx.

To this day, people can now canoe or kayak this urban oasis.

It was covered extensively by TV, newspaper and radio networks:

NY Daily News Metro Page 6

Project UpLift - helicopter removal of stripped, abandoned vehicles dumped into the River and adjacent corridor

Miracle On The River Festival - A July 4th celebration to thank the community for its volunteer efforts in the completion of a long delayed river-side park and clean-up efforts
