Gathering materials from a variety of Los Angeles venues, which included earth from the Getty and Skirball Cultural Centers, then under construction, the site of this first GOLEMESS installation was the University of Judaism, located in the Sepulveda Pass near these significant new cultural institutions. GOLEMESS I was created in collaboration with the Budapest sculptor Levente Thury as part of our multimedia installation/talk for the Platt Gallery's "Spiritual Matter in Contemporary Art" series. She was the centerpiece around which our Artist Talk was presented and the installation reconfigured various facets from our "Threads That Bind Us - Earth Elegies I " Yeshiva University Museum "Woman of Valor" Exhibition Platt Gallery, University of Judaism Los Angeles California

At the conclusion of this installation, the University of Judasim allowed us to resite the GOLEMESS I in an area immediately adjacent to the Sculpture Garden. Returning her to the earth. subsequently made it possible for us to retrieve her remaining core for GOLEMESS II, III and IV.

With freedom of expression under attack, not only in this country but throughout the world,
while ancient regional and religious intolerances once again are rearing a face of hatred and bigotry,
we trust that Golemess may provide a protective force for rational thought and reasoned actions.

In the creation of GOLEMESS,
it is our hope that the continuing empowerment of the female within society
will serve to protect its very pillars.
