Sol LeWitt
SFMOMA
San Francisco, CA

Spring
2000

"Sol LeWitt" a 40-year retrospective that included wall drawings, grid structures, books, drawings, and photographs, was the most comprehensive survey of this conceptual artist's work in more than 20 years. It was stunningly effective in its use of the architectonics of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, displaying immense, two-story geometric wall renderings. Curated by Gary Garrels (now chief curator of drawings and curator of paintings and sculpture at NYC's Museum of Modern Art) it debuted at SFMOMA February 19-May 21, 2000 before traveling to the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, July-October 2000.
